Mew Ichigo

From: Tokyo Mew Mew
Worn at: AWA 2006 & MTAC 2006

I knew as soon as I saw the cover of the first volume of Tokyo Mew Mew that this'd be a character I'd have to cosplay one day. I got started on it, then had to put in on the back burner for a time while I worked on other costumes. I'm glad I did though, because I think it turned out better than it would have had I done it when I first wanted to. The corset was a tough part to figure out, it was actually part of the reason I put this costume off. I started with a base pattern that was similar and modified my own pattern pieces from that. Then I made half of the corset from my trusty $1/yd Wal-Mart fabric to test it out. After that, I made the necessary adjustments and moved on to cutting it out of my pink material.

The skirt was pretty easy once I got it figured out in my head. I had an idea of how it was made, then while shopping one day I noticed a skirt like it and examined its construction. It was identical to what I'd had in mind, so I was more confident about making it. It's also really short, so I made a pair of matching bloomers with a hole in the back for my tail to poke through.

The gloves were a pair of white formal gloves that I cut and dyed red, and the Strawberry Bell was bought. The boots were black, then I spray painted them red and added the trim. I made the pendant for the choker out of paper clay and painted it with gold leaf, then acrylic for the symbol. The wig was cut by my stylist, then dyed by me and I made the cat ears and sewed them into it. The tail was also made by me, and is free-standing (no fishing line). I do wish I'd curled the bangs under more so I wouldn't have had to part them in the middle. Alas, they were poking my eyes so it had to be done.
